Under joint assessment, spouses file a common tax return and, thus, are handled as one person for tax purposes. In that case, a single notice of assessment is issued, and the tax refund, if applicable, is wired to one bank account.
Joint assessment is used especially for partnerships, in which only one spouse works or there is a large difference between the spouses' incomes.
If you choose to make use of joint assessment, you can apply for it at your respective tax and revenue office.
How can I select joint assessment in the software?
In our tool, under "Personal Data", select the family status "married / registered civil union". A checkbox with the following statement will appear: "I want to file for joint assessment with my partner who lives at the same address as me". When you tick the box, the additional fields will appear in your tax return to enable joint assessment.
